SUPERSTELLA. What does it mean to create dance nowadays?
Can the creative act truly ignore external judgment and personal experience?
Continuing the research begun with A Solo in the Spotlights (2022), Vittorio Pagani questions the mechanisms of production and diffusion of dance works by staging the (super)creative process of his new show. SUPERSTELLA is an existential and artistic investigation that oscillates between chaos and order, between idealization and reality, between the desire for fulfillment and the allure of perpetual becoming. This creative limbo of backstage, flashbacks, and future perspectives makes the present a space where nothing is created and nothing is destroyed, but everything is transformed. Inspired by the myth of movie stars and in dialogue with 8 1⁄2 by the great Federico Fellini, this performance intertwines video, sampling, dance and word – against the dark, against all odds. Dance here becomes a subject of study, grafted into the context of a reflection on the representation of bodies: the body adapts, fractures and composes itself in the face of the demands of an increasingly demanding market.

Vittorio Pagani is a performer and choreographer from Milan, Italy. In 2018 he joined the Ballet Junior de Genève, where he dances works by some of the most influential international choreographers (Marcos Morau, Jan Martens, Olivier Dubois, Hofesh Shechter…). In 2021 he created the duet Around 5:65, selected for the prestigious RIDCC2022 platform. In 2023 he obtained a Master’s degree in Expanded Dance Practice at The Place London – University of the Arts London (UAL).A The Place creates A Solo in the Spotlights, selected for Resolution 2023, the Showcase of Young Author’s Dance 2023 and Aerowaves 2024. The work has been presented at numerous festivals in Italy and Europe. In 2025, he created SUPERSTELLA, a work selected for the Showcase of Young Author’s Dance 2025 and NID Platform 2025, and is presented at international festivals including the Roma Europa Festival. In his creations, Pagani explores themes such as performativity and subversion, developing a multimedia choreographic practice in which different levels of the performative experience coexist and interact—relating to contemporary cultural contexts and generating an embodied and reflective dialogue with the present.
