WORKSHOP WITH ADAM BENJAMIN

Curated by Re-Action Integrated Dance Company

Contemporary dance workshop for dancers with and without disabilities, exploring integrated dance as a space for encounter, listening and relationship. The course focuses on body awareness, sensations and breathing, developing movement through partnering practices, contact improvisation and compositions in space and time. A formative and transformative experience that focuses on the uniqueness of each body, promoting a shared, inclusive and creative language.

Adam Benjamin is one of the world’s leading experts in integrated dance. A pioneer of this innovative approach to dance, he founded CandoCo Dance Company, the first dance company composed of dancers with and without disabilities, and served as its artistic director for many years. He has worked in South Africa as artistic director of the Tshwaragano Dance Company and in Ethiopia for the Adugna Community Dance Theatre. In Europe, he has worked as a freelance choreographer and has created works for his performance projects Adam Benjamin and dancers and The Stare Cases Project, as well as choreographing for Besht Tellers and the AandBC Theatre Company. He has developed a growing body of work in Japan, both in community dance and with professional artists such as Kim Itoh and Chieko Matsumura. He teaches on the training course “One More Dance? Dance as a tool for cultural welfare” (2023-2024; 2024-2025) organised by the Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto.
