SWANS NEVER DIE | Re-enactment for an intergenerational community
creative path of contemporary community dance
led by Ornella Balestra
curated by Rita Maria Fabris and Mariachiara Raviola
in the framework of the project “La Piattaforma. La Città Nuova. Quale genere di comunità”
in collaboration with Lavanderia a Vapore | Fondazione Piemonte dal Vivo, Spazio BAC
Associazione Filieradarte and Associazione Didee-arti e comuncazione, in the broad context of the Lavanderia a Vapore | Fondazione Piemonte dal Vivo project addressed to young professionals and students of dance schools in Piedmont, proposes a creative path of contemporary community dance, led by Ornella Balestra, former dancer of a dramaturgy on the myth of the swan by Raimund Hoghe (Pina Bausch-Tanztheater Wuppertal) to observe what cultural meanings emerge from the incorporation of the dying swan by dancing people and what relationships of solidarity can produce a “re-enactment with the community”. The path is intended for an intergenerational community of dancing people (amateurs and professionals), according to the sensitivity and experience developed in the processes of contemporary community dance. After a first part of presentation in the format of a conference-workshop (25 September), the creative path will develop in bi-monthly meetings starting in November, until the public presentation on the occasion of the World Dance Day on 29 April 2022.
In the framework of SWAN NEVER DIES | The project is designed to create an opportunity to circulate some well-known revivals/reconstructions/re-enactments of The Dying Swan, but also to promote new creations that engage in dialogue with this choreography that has become a milestone in the history of dance of the 20th and 21st centuries.
