CAMP-IN and RESEARCH CAMPING: two worlds together

This year Lavanderia a Vapore explores the dimension of camping from different angles, creating two distinct and complementary projects.

CAMP-IN is a new training project, which will take place from 13 November to 20 November, dedicated to emerging dance makers: a group that, supported by mentors, will stay in the Lavanderia, inhabiting their own studio fragments. A reflective and intimate dimension in which to experiment a horizontal pedagogy. The group will then join the extended artistic community that arrives as a multitude with the Camping from the 21st to the 23rd of November. A public opening of the creative processes of the CAMP-IN dance makers is planned on the first day of RESEARCH CAMPING, the 21st of November. The project is realised with the support of the MiC and SIAE, as part of the “PER CHI CREA” programme

With RESEARCH CAMPING, from the 21st to the 23rd of November, appropriateness and reflection are set in motion, as the gerund verb suggests, opening to a broad artistic community and the public with the customary appointment dedicated to the public dimension of research. In dialogue with Workspace Ricerca X, Research Camping develops in complementarity with the shared residencies, of which it embodies one of the public extensions.
RESEARCH CAMPING is realised with the contribution of the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation

From 21 to 23 November 2025, Research Camping returns for its fourth edition, transforming the spaces of the Lavanderia a Vapore aisle, from the foyer to the theatre, into hybrid environments between fiction and reality, which become devices for the exchange and dissemination of artistic research processes. The Camping not only hosts research but constitutes itself as research, aimed at the imagination of social and political alternatives.

WHAT RESEARCH CAMPING IS

During the Camping the research, from being an intimate space behind closed doors, becomes an imaginative agorà for new politics, a middle ground that welcomes creations still in the making, and offers asylum to alternative thoughts and imaginaries to the muscular rhetoric and the harried time of efficiency and production.

In a time obsessed with the sparkle of the new -and not always innovative- product and with rapid programmed obsolescence, research offers space for creative and unexpected responses that often stratify and revitalise materials and memories with circular, associative and unpredictable logic. How can artistic research be a navigator of the transformation that ceaselessly animates our cells and the contexts in which we live?

Through the public sharing of individual practices, the research overflows and becomes choral, giving life to visionary and at the same time experiential landscapes by activating a common but uncommon space.

RESEARCH CAMPING 2025 – SLIDING BODIES

What if we lost our righteousness and, in doing so, gave up our upright posture, to embrace, without too much gravity, the very act of falling as the choreography of a new politics?

Research Camping 2025 investigates slippering as a posture and relational dynamic, as the anatomy of interdependence, thematically articulating the inclination towards what is other, unfamiliar, the circularity of sharing and failure, a slip par excellence, as privileged powers to symbolically rewrite a new world that delves into the old, into the roots of a being together and ancient economies.

Metaphorically subverting the narrative that seals the moment of erection, from the ground up, as an evolutionary stage from primate to supremacist, Sliding bodies rewinds the perception of space-time, disorienting bodies by renegotiating flows and relationships, generating oscillatory movements, acts of mutual support and collective bewilderment: a proof that reaching out to the other is a superpower against the assertive and delusional attitude of egocentrism

What if power was no longer associated with the rigidity of strength and the performativity of security? When did falling cease to be wonderful unveiling?

Sliding Bodies is a place of tilting, of shifting from the axis, of sliding, slipping and losing balance, of tipping over and vertigo, where the act of placing the quest in an inclined dimension shakes it in all its instability.

A space-time in which the oscillating motions whisper new constitutions, write economies of exchange, overheat the atmosphere through contact friction, suggest sinuous movements in a continuous rocking and circling: cocoons, hammocks, tensions of forces and slides that encourage the loss of focus to blur boundaries.

The environments of this edition that embody these dynamics are the shop and the slide: spatialities that encourage inclinations, that solicit new ways of relating and negotiating precarious balances and invite us to rethink the forms of sharing practices and materials in the choral dimension of Camping.

These environments will be activated sharing practices and research materials, open to the temporary community of artist-researchers, participants and visitors

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We invite artists/researchers to send articulate proposals starting from their own research path, resonating with the questions of this edition and the Research Camping dimension.

We invite proposals that not only or not necessarily explore the key words of the call thematically, but that experiment with them in a direct way with attitudes, methods and postures.

Proposal formats can be:

  • research practices, understood as proposals to be shared with a group of people who practice and/or observe
  • multimodal research materials, understood as pieces of the research process (sounds, words, images, texts, objects…), to be organised in the space to be traversed by the participants, also as an installation.

The proposals can be placed in one of the spaces on the Camping:

  • the shop

What happens in the shop? Fleeting, quick, almost imperceptible exchanges and movements. Movements that leave traces, to be collected, abandoned, bartered or stolen, like secret treasures or hidden relics. Or perhaps one blows on abandoned ingredients, to remove dust or to become mould friends. The shop welcomes proposals aimed at small groups or individuals, placed in small spaces focused on discarding, transmission, archiving, recovery and layering of materials and references.

  • the slide

Soft, choral descents on steep, sloping structures where the surface is blunt and permeable. A space of disequilibrium and unstable postures, where one must continually renegotiate one’s orientation. Subverting rigidity in favour of readjustments, slips, collective rests and views from above. The slide welcomes collective proposals, for small or large groups, to be placed in a large space.

All proposals must have a maximum duration of 30 minutes and be compatible with the rotation and cohabitation of the other proposals: the sharing of space and time is a curatorial and logistic principle of Camping, understood as a collective and shared experience.

WHAT WE OFFER

Participants will receive a lump sum of €300 if resident/domiciled in Turin and within a 50km distance, or €500 if resident at a greater distance.

It is required to be in possession of an individual VAT number or the possibility to be supported by associations or organisations that can issue an invoice.

Selected artists are invited to participate in all Research Camping days.
