A research project by Kadri Sirel and Eugenia Coscarella on the theme of memory, conceived at Lavanderia a Vapore and co-developed with the curatorial team. The research explores how to activate, construct, and document memory starting from collective practices and how this relates to cultural institutions.

How does memory allow us to regenerate the past and open a door to the future?

The Liquid Archive is a temporary, shape-shifting environment that is activated during Lavanderia a Vapore’s public events. It is a fluid and sensitive relational device that creates a connection between the audience, the atmosphere of the event, and the curatorial themes. The architecture and liquid posture of the experience encourage the delicate interaction of bodies and elements as living archives, which, thanks to the encounter, can regenerate each other and take away the nutrients of the experience.
The archive is therefore an event. It is a constantly evolving practice that takes shape from being together, in the here and now, generating a fluid choreography. Thanks to sensory activation, memories, fears, desires, emotions, and silences find space to emerge, overflow, intertwine, and intensify in the present, allowing the future to take shape as a shared possibility.

In 2026, we imagine the Liquid Archive as the heart of the Dark MatterS and Spring Rolls festivals: a warm chamber of welcome, expansion of listening and release, of what flows in the blood and reaches the heart. In residence from January 22 to 30 and March 16 to 25, we open a new period of research, guided by the warmth of water and the somatic-anatomical suggestion of the heart, we ask ourselves:

Liquid Blue Walk is an immersive blindfolded journey, a collective act of exploration of a special and human landscape where participants will unfold possible outcomes together. A walk that drifts in quiet unison, like a school of fish in the blue of evening.  A walk where the familiar becomes unknown. A walk that lets you reconnect with your curiosity.
Liquid Blue Walk is a collective moment—an opportunity toreshape how we relate to places, to our internal space and one another.
To relate not only to the world around us but also to our own breath. To move differently, to pause, to sense. To explore ways of being present together, fostering true connection, reciprocity, and understanding. To slowly shift from the gaze and the logic into a dark dimension that let other channels emerge.
It offers a rare pause: a moment tosuspend, to wonder, and to reconnect with yourself.

Christopher Serebour began his career with hip hop and break dancing, continuing with Afro dance, contact improvisation, and contemporary dance. He studied acting and writing, integrating these tools into his physical research. He participated in a course promoted by the Aterballetto Foundation on the role of dance in cultural welfare and continues to train through workshops and laboratories on the performing arts. He collaborates with artists and organizations that promote inclusion and accessibility, with the aim of breaking down barriers related to disability and making dance and art a universal language.

Jija Sohn is a Japanese-Korean artist based in Amsterdam. Since 2019, she has dedicated her work to exploring human connections and relationships, developing three community-based projects – “Lands of Concert,” “Phantom Travels,” and “Landing on Feathers.” She also worked on the community project “Performing Gender – Dancing In Your Shoes” with the Theater Festival Boulevard in 2022-2023. These projects have become her way of looking into human nature, recognizing and embracing all its flaws and strengths. Since 2023, she has been studying water-based practices such as Watsu® (Shiatsu in water) and Water Dance, immersing herself in water as an environment for exploring movement as an artistic territory.

Collective training residency on the relationship between sound, space and body

Annotazioni Superficiali is a training project curated by Enrico Malatesta aimed at investigating sound and the dynamics of listening, applied to the performing, sound and visual arts, as well as dance and theatre.
The residential program, based on the study of the relationship between body, sound and space, is dedicated to artists, dancers and performers who will use the building, the configuration of the large spaces (both external and internal) of Lavanderia and its urban setting as their field of investigation.
The overall aim of the project is to provide knowledge of the implications and power of sound in relation to the stage, its fluid ability to modify the perception of space and the presence of the body, transform the voice, revitalise materials, support, fill and empty.

Enrico Malatesta is a percussionist, researcher and sound artist active in experimental fields spanning music, performance and territorial investigation. His practice explores the relationships between sound, space and movement, with a particular focus on modes of listening, the affordances of instruments and polyrhythm, understood as the definition of multiple pieces of information through an ecological and sustainable approach to percussion.  
Active from a very young age as a stage musician, composer and theatre trainer, he also carries out intensive pedagogical work dedicated to sound and the dynamics of listening, collaborating with, among others, IUAV – Master’s Degree Course in Theatre and Performing Arts, Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, Academy of Fine Arts in Urbino, LABA Free Academy of Fine Arts in Rimini, IAAD – Institute of Applied Art and Design.

The Carmen_Nous sommes toustes des étoiles project has developed thanks to dialogue between various local entities, dance schools, artists Viola Scaglione, Elena Rolla, Amina Amici, and choreographer Anna Basti, as a starting point for reflecting on the content that great ballets and classical works have conveyed and continue to convey. The goal, in 2026, is to continue to investigate what the figure of Carmen evokes; to reflect on the power that bodies can express in relation to Audre Lorde’s idea of the erotic: the erotic as a generative force, as a quality of doing, as power. This new research session touches on another fundamental aspect of the figure of Carmen: the magical. In the novella, the magical element drives the archaeologist/narrator’s desire to deepen his knowledge of Carmen. In the opera, it is reduced to a reading of cards, which foreshadows the tragic end of Carmen and Don José. In Roland Petit’s ballet, it is completely eliminated.
Just as we have encountered and tried to embrace an idea of the erotic that differs from the commonly perceived one, can we give a different value to the idea of the magical? Can we read it as a resource, an additional level of sensitivity and perception that can nourish our relationship with reality? As a terrain that escapes the rational and productive control that is offered to us as the only way to be in the world? As an “illicit form of power” and knowledge, which, because it is perceived as exceeding a standardized vision of reality, is fought against because it is difficult to control?

From 2019 to the present, Anna Basti‘s research has been increasingly oriented towards the involvement of non-professionals and the construction of experiential and participatory containers, in the belief that knowledge about the body has a revolutionary and transformative power when shared with as many subjects as possible. With this in mind, she straddles different artistic languages, taking research on the body as a starting point for building bridges between various disciplines.

Tabula Rasa continues its journey of exploration, revisiting some aspects of previous residencies and this time becoming a call to action. For those who wish to take on the responsibility of staying in an empty space for a period of time, in silence, and listening to the absence. The absence of something to see, to do, to say. What goes through us when we position ourselves on the edge of an unknown empty space? What happens if that space becomes an extension of our being, where the occurrence of our presence creates other forms and meanings, not yet imagined, less visible, more intimate, perhaps deeper? Being and perhaps crossing that predetermined space takes on a meaning that is that of the gaze of the person who makes this journey alone. Complexity is stripped away, the empty space becomes the space where we can find ourselves, where we can sink into listening, where we can grasp our uncertainty; there we can grasp that ‘nothing is as it seems’, perhaps.

Associate artist at Lavanderia a Vapore, trainer, choreographer, psychosynthetic counselor, Doriana Crema trained as a dancer at the Teatro Nuovo in Turin with Carla Perotti, as a practitioner in the field of body expression with Anna Sagna at the Bella Hutter dance school, furthered her training in contemporary dance with Raffaella Giordano, and followed the training process in sensitive dance with Claude Coldy. She has been a trainer in body expression workshops with children and teachers at various educational institutions in Turin and Strasbourg. In 2016, she created the Danzatori di Comunità (Community Dancers) training course together with Rita Fabris. She curates the Solitudo project “Visions for a creative community” together with Raffaella Tomellini and Fabio Castello. She accompanies individual artists and dance companies in their creative processes. She is a counselor and teacher at the Scuola Superiore di Counseling in Turin.

IL TAVOLO is a pretext for cooperating and rekindling the roots of relationship and shared action.
The project is open to including, in the experiential material of the work, the participation of other people, other communities, other differences, imagining encounters open to the public.

In the past, she worked mainly in France with Georges Appaix, in Switzerland with Pierre Byland, and in Italy with Roberto Castello and Giorgio Rossi at the Associazione Sosta Palmizi, with whom she still collaborates. During her career, she met clown director Giovanna Mori. Together with Aldo Rendina, she created the Compagnia Tardito/Rendina. She collaborated on the creation of “Sparsi,” a collective work for sound painters, dancers, and live musicians. She created the solo “Sonja,” with the support of Aldo Rendina, a project that won the AiR – Artists in Residence 2020 competition organized by Lavanderia a Vapore. She accompanied Aldo Rendina in the creation of the solo “Swan.” For years he has been conducting educational activities in dance, theater, and clowning. Parallel to his involvement in the performing arts, he has undertaken a course of study and research on meditation, a practice he also uses in the artistic field.

ARIA brings together a group of artists and curators around the challenge of imagining a vaporous space in which to sketch out alternative geographies of being together. The artists who will nurture this process are: Anna Basti, Adriana Borriello, B.Bordoni, Francesca Cinalli, Christopher Serebour with Caterina Mocciola, Flavia Zaganelli, with contributions from Doriana Crema, Jija Sohn, and Salvo Lombardo.

The ARIA call for applications stems from the transformation of the AiR – artists in residence call, which until now has provided support for individual artistic creation projects, now rethinking its function as support for a collective research residency, shared with the host institution, questioning together issues and formats to be opened up to wider communities.

Lavanderia a Vapore and its team are engaging in the residency itself as an opportunity to rethink their organizational models through a porous and reciprocal attitude, aimed at questioning unilateral relationships and enabling other possibilities, other forms of systemic, synergistic, and horizontal relationships.

Workspace Ricerca X is now in its tenth edition. In 2025, it will celebrate its first 10 years of activity: research residencies, landscapes of practices, lecture-performances, publications, residencies of thought, research camping, feedback practices, writing practices, attention practices, workshops and laboratories, lectures and symposiums, fictional parties.
Over the past ten years, Ricerca X has imagined, articulated, and implemented alternative ways of being together, resolutely defending the space, role, and functions of artistic research within the performing arts ecosystem. It has trained critical thinking as a way of reading the present and as a springboard for imagining future trajectories and new paths. It has created spaces, expanded times, and welcomed artists and allies, who in turn have given the project new visions, relaunching the future of this space that is both solid and changeable at the same time.
By extending an invitation to go through a process of self-reflection, the project activates the desire to look inward in order to relaunch outward. Within the rigour of a format, finding interstices that allow us to experiment with new paths, retrace old ones, invent new ones, and overturn coordinates.

Workspace Ricerca X – Research and Dramaturgy is a platform for the development and support of artistic research and dramaturgy in the field of choreography and performance. Founded in 2016 with the aim of disseminating, questioning, and legitimizing artistic research in the Italian context, it is aimed at professionals in the field of dance and performing arts.
Workspace Ricerca X is driven by the desire to consolidate a culture of artistic research in Italy, creating spaces in which to practice an alternative approach to work, focused on forging alliances and circulating knowledge generated in artistic practices.
