SIXTH LANDSCAPE | Francesca Cola
research by Francesca Cola, acoustic investigation by Marzio Zorio
The project aims to explore the moment in which the visible cracks, surrenders to the invisible and transforms into the sensible. Inspired by David Abram’s “enchantment of the sensible” and Annie Dillard’s close attention to the world, the work investigates the somatic wild that reconnects the body with the deeper flesh of the world. The Sixth Landscape thus becomes the space of this attunement, where human vulnerability itself becomes the threshold to inhabit. The research develops its own map around three liminal dimensions: the visible, the invisible and the sensible.
Through the micropolitics of the “minor gesture” – an intimate and accessible movement – the project aims to inhabit the studio as a living ecosystem, designed to generate a device of resonance.
Francesca Cola is a transdisciplinary author, dancer and independent performer. Her research is rooted in the study of interspecific and intergenerational semiotics, investigating the deep resonances between the body, visual and sound languages, and ritual practices. By placing the body in constant dialogue with sound maps, acoustic devices, language dynamics and cultural layers of the imaginary, she opens her investigation to the neuroaesthetic and linguistic dimensions. Her productions develop through a radical exploration of vulnerability and the plurality of bodies, intersecting with the field of disability studies. Long active in participatory formats, she works as assistant to Virgilio Sieni and Julie Stanzak for community projects. Winner of the Tuttoteatro.com Award (10th edition) for performing arts and new dramaturgy, she curates writing and somatic research on Substack through the weekly journal La memoria del latte e delle ossa / Body Talk. She regularly collaborates with the University of Turin, Lavanderia a Vapore, Nòva and Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo.
